Here's the Conference Schedule and Agenda
- A note from IAAIS President Stuart Holland:
"The International Association of Audio Information Services (IAAIS) is a volunteer-driven membership organization of services that turn text into speech for people who cannot see, hold or comprehend the printed word and who may be unable to access information due to a disability or health condition. Our conferences are designed to be sources of education, inspiration, and an opportunity for professionals to share with others in the same rarified field.
"This particular conference is happening in the state where radio information services began in 1969, with the Minnesota Radio Reading Service. That set a model for many services to come later: an FM side-channel, closed-circuit analog radio signal that carried newspapers, magazines, and a few books for people with blindness and reading disabilities. That has segued into services around the world that fit many different formats and forms of delivery, some still using the analog radio signal, but others on cable, SCA television, touch-tone telephone, and the internet. There are many possibilities for the future.
"Since there are so many different approaches, the conferences have a very broad scope of educational presentations, from technology and government regulations, to volunteer management and fund-raising. But one of the most important aspects of the conferences is the opportunity for people to rub shoulders with others doing the same work. Though there are information services scattered throughout the world, often the services cover a wide area and are quite some distance from the nearest other service. That means that a “volunteer coordinator” for volunteer readers will probably never meet another volunteer coordinator doing the same work, except at these conferences. And the same is true for any other position.
"We encourage people to come to the IAAIS Conference to learn, to get inspired, and to meet other professionals. You will get an opportunity to share your successes, issues, and problems and will return to your work with new ideas and a greater feeling of connectedness to the profession around the world."
